The Willoughby area has changed considerably in the last few years in recognition of the proximity to the city and airport, whilst retaining its peaceful, leafy ambiance and the period charm of its architecture. Within the immediate Willoughby area there are some of Sydney's best retail food outlets and restaurants, finest parks and sporting facilities, including Willoughby Leisure Centre at Bicentennial Park and the Community Centre, play areas, pavilions, bowling club and two ovals located at Willoughby Park.

It is little surprise that families and professionals have been attracted to this enviable range of amenities and the extensive education opportunities offered by both private and public schools in both Willoughby and nearby Chatswood.

The suburbs of Castle Cove, Castlecrag and Middle Cove each bring an individual flavour to the Willoughby district. Castlecrag's village shops, Walter Burley Griffin architecture, prestige properties and expansive water views and bushland provide an exclusive lifestyle. Artarmon can be divided into three sections; on one side of the Cahill Expressway is a light industrial area, the other side is the residential area where apartments dominate and on the north side of the train line and houses dominate the south side.

The suburb consists of older style apartments and Federation, Georgian and Victorian houses on large blocks - typically greater than 750sqm. Apartment buildings are typically low to medium-density and the houses are large.
